Various people on the network recommend:
	ethtool -K eth0 tso off

It might be worth checking the cable - is it rated for 1Gb? We've
got lots of ethernet cable around that's not, and I found at least
one of the latter that in fact didn't work reliably at 1gb.

I've got 2.4.26 and 2.4.28 generic kernel that might be entertaining to try
here - these are basically newer kernels built/configured the same as
what's on the CD.

It strikes me that a hardware conflict might cause this problem;
might be interesting to check bios settings, irq levels, port addressing,
dmesg output, etc., & see if there's anything interesting there.
